Rybelsus in the UAE

What is sold here

UAE pharmacies list Rybelsus 3 mg, 7 mg and 14 mg in packs of 30 tablets. We did not find the newer 1.5 mg, 4 mg and 9 mg Rybelsus tablets (sold in some other countries) on sale in the UAE in September 2026. The 1.5, 4, 9 and 25 mg oral semaglutide tablets that are on sale in the UAE are the Wegovy pill, which is licensed for weight management, not Rybelsus.

What it is licensed for

Type 2 diabetes in adults whose blood sugar is not controlled well enough, alongside diet and exercise. It is not licensed for weight loss; in the UAE the Wegovy pill is the oral semaglutide approved for weight management.

Prescription rules

Prescription-only medicine. Pharmacies, including online pharmacies, will only dispense it against a valid prescription (paper or electronic) from a doctor licensed in the UAE.

How to get a prescription

Rybelsus is prescribed for type 2 diabetes. The usual route is to see a UAE-licensed doctor (a GP, internist or endocrinologist, in person or by video consultation) who can assess you, check your blood sugar results and, if appropriate, issue a prescription. In Dubai and Abu Dhabi prescriptions are usually electronic and can be sent straight to a pharmacy.

You can then collect Rybelsus from any licensed pharmacy or order it through a licensed pharmacy's app or website for home delivery. The pharmacy checks the prescription before dispensing. If you have health insurance, ask the doctor or pharmacy to submit the prescription for approval first, because many plans need prior approval for GLP-1 medicines and cover them for diabetes but not for weight loss alone.

If you are looking for an oral treatment for weight management rather than diabetes, the Wegovy pill (oral semaglutide) and Foundayo (orforglipron) are both approved and on sale in the UAE. They also need a prescription, and insurers usually do not cover them for weight loss.

Cost and cover

Health insurance (Thiqa, Dubai and Abu Dhabi mandatory insurance, employer plans)

The UAE has no single public payer for medicines. Emirati citizens are covered by government programmes such as Thiqa in Abu Dhabi, and most expatriate residents are covered by employer-provided health insurance, which is compulsory in Abu Dhabi and Dubai. Whether Rybelsus is covered depends on your plan's formulary and prior-approval rules. UAE clinics report that insurers generally reimburse GLP-1 medicines when they are prescribed for diabetes (and sometimes prediabetes), but not for weight loss alone, which is usually self-pay. Check with your insurer before you start: many plans need prior approval and charge a co-payment.

Paying yourself

Medicine prices in the UAE are regulated, and pharmacies we checked charge the same list price. In September 2026 Life Pharmacy listed Rybelsus 3 mg, 7 mg and 14 mg at AED 641 for a pack of 30 tablets (one month), the same price for every strength, including VAT. Insured patients usually pay only their plan's co-payment if the prescription is approved.

Checking a pharmacy is genuine

Pharmacies and clinics are licensed by the health authority of the emirate they operate in. For Dubai, search the DHA Sheryan medical directory for the pharmacy or clinic name; for Abu Dhabi, check with the Department of Health; for Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain, Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah, check with MOHAP. A licensed pharmacy will ask for a valid UAE prescription before dispensing Rybelsus. Avoid sellers on social media or messaging apps that offer prescription medicines without a prescription: only licensed pharmaceutical establishments may sell them.

  Approved by the Emirates Drug Establishment and launched on 3 June 2026, the first launch outside the US, for weight management and to reduce cardiovascular risk in adults with obesity or overweight. Pharmacies list 1.5 mg, 4 mg, 9 mg and 25 mg tablets in packs of 30 at AED 779, 779, 1,199 and 1,610.

  Orforglipron was approved by the Emirates Drug Establishment in 2026, making the UAE one of the first countries to register it, and it has been on sale since around May 2026. Life Pharmacy listed 30-tablet packs at AED 773 (0.8 mg), AED 1,115 (5.5 mg), AED 1,412 (9 mg) and AED 1,599 (14.5 mg) in September 2026.
