Rybelsus is not currently sold in Australia. What that means, the alternatives that are available, and the rules on getting medicines from abroad.

What is sold here
Rybelsus 3 mg, 7 mg and 14 mg tablets have been on the Australian Register of Therapeutic Goods (ARTG) since 7 February 2022 (ARTG 346198, 346199 and 346200). The newer 1.5 mg, 4 mg and 9 mg tablets are not on the ARTG.
Being registered is not the same as being on sale. As of 22 September 2026 Rybelsus is not on the PBS, it is not on Novo Nordisk Australia's product list (which includes Ozempic and Wegovy), and searches of Chemist Warehouse and Pharmacy Online found no Rybelsus, while Chemist Warehouse lists Ozempic, Wegovy and Mounjaro. We found no evidence that it is currently supplied in Australia. If your doctor prescribes it, ask your pharmacist whether it can be obtained.
What it is licensed for
Registered by the TGA for type 2 diabetes in adults. It is not registered for weight management.
Prescription rules
Prescription-only medicine (Schedule 4). It can only be supplied on a prescription from an Australian registered prescriber.
How to get a prescription
If you have type 2 diabetes, talk to your GP. Rybelsus is registered in Australia but we could not find it on sale, and it is not on the PBS, so your doctor is more likely to prescribe a PBS-subsidised alternative such as Ozempic (the weekly semaglutide injection), which costs the standard PBS co-payment when you meet the criteria.
Telehealth services run by AHPRA-registered doctors and nurse practitioners, such as InstantScripts, Juniper, Pilot (now part of Hims and Hers), Mosh and Doctors on Demand, can assess you for weight management by video or phone. If they prescribe, you receive an eScript to fill at a pharmacy of your choice, or the service arranges dispensing and delivery. Because of the advertising rules they do not name medicines before the consultation; the medicines prescribed for weight management in Australia are injections such as Wegovy and Mounjaro, bought privately.
There is currently no oral GLP-1 medicine for weight loss on the Australian market: the Wegovy pill is not registered and orforglipron (Foundayo in the US) is still being evaluated by the TGA. Do not buy semaglutide tablets from overseas websites; under the Personal Importation Scheme you need a valid Australian prescription, you may import no more than three months' supply at a time, and counterfeit medicines are seized.
Cost and cover
Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS)
Rybelsus is not subsidised by the PBS. A PBS medicine search on 22 September 2026 found semaglutide only as the Ozempic injection pens, and the PBAC Medicine Status website shows no submission for Rybelsus (its semaglutide records are for Ozempic and Wegovy). Anyone who obtained Rybelsus would therefore pay the full private price.
For comparison, a PBS-listed medicine costs at most $25.00 per prescription for general patients and $7.70 for concession card holders (amounts as at 1 July 2026), and the PBS Safety Net thresholds are $1,748.20 (general) and $277.20 (concessional). Ozempic is PBS-subsidised for type 2 diabetes when the PBS restriction criteria are met. Wegovy and Mounjaro are sold on private prescription. The PBAC recommended Wegovy for a restricted listing for people with established cardiovascular disease and obesity at its November 2025 meeting, and a further Wegovy submission is on the November 2026 agenda, but Wegovy did not appear in the PBS medicine search on 22 September 2026.
Paying yourself
We found no Australian price for Rybelsus as of 22 September 2026, because we could not find it on sale. For comparison, Chemist Warehouse's private prices on that date were $249.99 per Wegovy pen for the 0.25 mg, 0.5 mg and 1 mg doses and $369.99 for 1.7 mg and 2.4 mg, and $279.99 (2.5 mg) to $689.99 (12.5 mg and 15 mg) per Mounjaro KwikPen; each pen holds four weekly doses. Ozempic costs the $25.00 PBS general co-payment ($7.70 concessional) when prescribed under the PBS criteria.

Where to get it
No GLP-1 tablet is currently on sale in Australia, so we do not list suppliers. The sections above explain what is available and how prescriptions work.
Australian pharmacies, including online pharmacies, may dispense prescription-only (Schedule 4) medicines against a valid Australian prescription, including an electronic prescription (eScript) issued after a telehealth consultation. Pharmacists must be registered with the Pharmacy Board of Australia through AHPRA, and pharmacy businesses are registered or licensed by the state or territory where they operate. Selling prescription medicines without a prescription is illegal, and prescription medicines may not be advertised to the public.
Checking a pharmacy is genuine
A legitimate Australian online pharmacy shows its business name, street address and the name of the pharmacist in charge. Check that pharmacist on the AHPRA public register (profession: pharmacist), and check the pharmacy business with the authority for its state or territory, for example the Pharmacy Council of NSW (through the Health Professional Councils Authority) or the Victorian Pharmacy Authority. It should only dispense prescription medicines against a valid Australian prescription or eScript.
For a telehealth service, check that the doctor or nurse practitioner who treats you is on the AHPRA register. Be wary of any website that sells prescription medicines without a prescription, ships from overseas, or offers 'compounded' or 'research' versions of GLP-1 medicines.

No Wegovy tablet is on the ARTG as of 22 September 2026. The TGA's public list of applications under evaluation only covers new medicines, new combinations and new indications, so an application for a new oral form of semaglutide would not necessarily appear on it; we could not confirm whether one has been lodged.

The TGA accepted Eli Lilly Australia's application for orforglipron calcium (a new medicine, application type A) in January 2026, for weight management and for type 2 diabetes. The proposed indication on the TGA's list calls it NEXVOUND, so the Australian brand name may differ from Foundayo.

Rybelsus in Australia: questions
Is Rybelsus available in Australia?
Rybelsus 3 mg, 7 mg and 14 mg tablets are registered with the TGA, but we could not find them on sale: Rybelsus is not on the PBS, it is not on Novo Nordisk Australia's product list, and major online pharmacies do not stock it. If your doctor prescribes it, ask your pharmacist whether it can be obtained. Most people with type 2 diabetes who need a semaglutide medicine are prescribed Ozempic injections instead.
Is Rybelsus on the PBS?
No. Rybelsus has no PBS listing and the PBAC Medicine Status website shows no submission for it. The only semaglutide on the PBS is the Ozempic injection for type 2 diabetes, subsidised when the PBS criteria are met.
How much does a PBS prescription cost in 2026?
From 1 July 2026 the most you pay for a PBS-listed medicine is $25.00 per prescription as a general patient, or $7.70 with a concession card. Once your family's spending reaches the Safety Net threshold ($1,748.20 general, $277.20 concessional), PBS medicines become cheaper or free for the rest of the calendar year. Medicines that are not on the PBS, such as Wegovy or Mounjaro for weight loss, cost the full private price.
Is there a weight-loss pill like the Wegovy pill in Australia?
Not yet. The Wegovy pill (oral semaglutide 25 mg) is not registered in Australia as of 22 September 2026. Eli Lilly's orforglipron, sold as Foundayo in the US, has been under TGA evaluation since January 2026 for weight management and type 2 diabetes. Until one is approved, the GLP-1 medicines prescribed for weight management in Australia are injections.
Why don't telehealth weight-loss services say which medicine they prescribe?
Because advertising prescription-only medicines to the public is illegal in Australia, and the TGA has said this includes GLP-1 medicines such as Ozempic, Wegovy and Mounjaro. Services such as InstantScripts and Juniper therefore describe their programs and prices but only discuss specific medicines during a consultation with a registered practitioner.
Can I get Ozempic for weight loss in Australia?
Ozempic is registered and PBS-subsidised only for type 2 diabetes. Some doctors will not prescribe it for weight loss because that is off-label use, and advertising it for weight loss is illegal. Wegovy (the same active ingredient, registered for weight management) and Mounjaro are available on private prescription.
Can I order Rybelsus from an overseas website?
Only within the TGA's Personal Importation Scheme, and it is risky. For a prescription-only medicine you must hold a valid Australian prescription when you import it, you can import no more than three months' supply at a time (and no more than 15 months' supply in 12 months), and it must be for you or an immediate family member. Counterfeit medicines are seized even if you did not know they were fake, and many overseas sites selling semaglutide are not legitimate pharmacies.
How much do Wegovy and Mounjaro cost privately in Australia?
On 22 September 2026 Chemist Warehouse listed Wegovy at $249.99 per pen for the 0.25 mg, 0.5 mg and 1 mg doses and $369.99 for 1.7 mg and 2.4 mg, and Mounjaro at $279.99 (2.5 mg) to $689.99 (12.5 mg and 15 mg) per KwikPen. Each pen lasts four weeks. Telehealth programs charge monthly fees that may include the medicine; compare what is included before you sign up.
How do I check that an online pharmacy or telehealth service is legitimate?
Check the pharmacist and the prescribing doctor or nurse practitioner on the AHPRA public register, and check that the pharmacy shows an Australian street address and is registered with its state or territory pharmacy authority. A legitimate service will always require a consultation or a valid Australian prescription and will not advertise prescription medicines by name.
Can I use a prescription from overseas at an Australian pharmacy?
Prescription-only medicines are supplied in Australia on prescriptions from Australian registered prescribers, and the TGA's personal import rules also require an Australian prescription. If you are moving to or visiting Australia, see a local GP or a telehealth doctor to get an Australian prescription.
