What is sold here

The 1.5, 4 and 9 mg tablets (30 per pack) are marketed; the older 3, 7 and 14 mg tablets are shown as no longer marketed in the AEMPS database. The doses are equivalent: 1.5 mg = 3 mg, 4 mg = 7 mg, 9 mg = 14 mg.

What it is licensed for

Type 2 diabetes in adults whose blood sugar is not adequately controlled, alongside diet and exercise: on its own when metformin is unsuitable, or with other diabetes medicines.

How to get a prescription

If you are covered by the SNS, see your family doctor (medico de cabecera) at your health centre. For type 2 diabetes with a BMI of 30 or more, the doctor can prescribe Rybelsus in combination with other diabetes medicines; the prescription needs visado approval before the pharmacy can dispense it at the funded price.

A private doctor can also prescribe Rybelsus on a private prescription, which you pay in full at the pharmacy. Wegovy and Mounjaro injections are marketed but not funded by the SNS, so they are always self-pay. The Wegovy pill is authorised but was not marketed in Spain as of September 2026, and it has already been recorded as not financed by the SNS.

All prescription medicines must be collected from a physical pharmacy. Online and telemedicine doctors can issue prescriptions, but no website may sell or deliver prescription-only medicines to you.

Prescriptions from doctors in other EU countries can be dispensed in Spanish pharmacies, although the pharmacist may refuse if details are missing or doubtful. UK prescriptions are not covered by these EU rules, so British residents in Spain should get a Spanish prescription.

Cost and cover

Sistema Nacional de Salud (SNS)

The SNS funds the new Rybelsus tablets (funded from 1 February 2026) only with prior authorisation (visado), for adults with type 2 diabetes and a BMI of 30 or more, in combination with other diabetes medicines including insulin (not on its own), when these plus diet and exercise do not give adequate control. Use as monotherapy is not funded. Outside these conditions you need a private prescription and pay the full price.

Paying yourself

We could not verify the official retail price (PVP with VAT) of Rybelsus in Spain: the Ministry of Health and AEMPS public databases do not show it and the BOT Plus database needs a login. With an SNS prescription under visado you pay only the standard patient co-payment.

Where to get it

Prescription medicines cannot legally be sold online to the public in Spain, so we do not list online suppliers. Your doctor and local pharmacy are the route.

Not legal. Spanish law prohibits selling prescription-only medicines by mail order or online (Real Decreto Legislativo 1/2015, art. 3.5). Pharmacies may sell only non-prescription medicines online, after notifying their regional health authority, under Real Decreto 870/2013. Prescription medicines such as Rybelsus must be collected from a physical pharmacy.

Checking a pharmacy is genuine

Pharmacies that sell non-prescription medicines online must be notified to their regional health authority and show the EU common logo (green stripes, a white cross and the Spanish flag), which links to their entry on the AEMPS Distafarma list; you can also search the list yourself.

The logo only covers non-prescription medicines. Because online sale of prescription-only medicines is prohibited in Spain, no legitimate website can sell you Rybelsus, Wegovy, Ozempic or Mounjaro for delivery; any site offering them is illegal, whatever logo it shows. Collect prescription medicines from a physical pharmacy (farmacia).

    Authorised (EU decision July 2026) and listed as not marketed in the AEMPS database; the Ministry of Health records it as not financed by the SNS from 1 September 2026.

  • Foundayo Tablet · orforglipron Under review

    Lilly's orforglipron is not authorised in the EU. EMA started evaluating it for obesity and type 2 diabetes on 22 January 2026 (EMEA/H/C/006632); the procedure restarted after the list of questions on 20 July 2026. It is approved in the US (April 2026) and the UK (August 2026).

  • Ozempic Injection · semaglutide (injection) Available

    Weekly semaglutide injection. SNS-funded with visado for type 2 diabetes (funded since 1 June 2019 for the 1 mg pen); not funded for weight loss.

  • Wegovy Injection · semaglutide (injection) Available

    Weekly semaglutide injection for weight management. Marketed but not funded by the SNS (since 1 April 2023). Private price not verified.

  • Mounjaro Injection · tirzepatide Available

    Weekly tirzepatide KwikPen. Marketed but not funded by the SNS for any indication, including type 2 diabetes (since 1 July 2024). Private price not verified.

  • Generic semaglutide Injection · semaglutide Under review

    No generic semaglutide is authorised in the EU. EMA is evaluating three generic applications: two for type 2 diabetes (evaluation started 21 May 2026 and 18 June 2026) and one for weight management (started 18 June 2026).

Rybelsus in Spain: questions

Can I buy Rybelsus without a prescription in Spain?

No. Rybelsus is a prescription-only medicine, and a pharmacy can dispense it only against a valid prescription. Websites offering it without one are illegal.

Can I order Rybelsus or Wegovy online in Spain?

No. Spanish law prohibits selling prescription medicines online or by mail order. Pharmacy websites with the EU common logo may sell only non-prescription medicines, so you must collect Rybelsus from a physical pharmacy.

Is Rybelsus covered by the Spanish public health system (SNS)?

Only with prior authorisation (visado): for adults with type 2 diabetes and a BMI of 30 or more, used in combination with other diabetes medicines when these do not give adequate control. It is not funded as monotherapy or for weight loss.

Can I use a UK prescription in Spain?

Generally no. Spanish rules let pharmacies dispense prescriptions issued in other EU member states (Real Decreto 1718/2010, art. 15 bis), but since Brexit the UK is not covered, so a pharmacist has no legal basis to accept a UK prescription for a prescription-only medicine. Register with your local health centre if you are entitled to SNS care, or see a private doctor in Spain, and bring your UK records and medication list.

Can I use a prescription from another EU country in Spain?

Yes. Pharmacies can dispense prescriptions from other EU countries if they contain the required details (patient, prescriber and signature, date, and the medicine's name, strength, form, quantity and dosage). The pharmacist may refuse if details are missing or the prescription's authenticity is in doubt. Spain also takes part in the EU ePrescription service (MyHealth@EU) with some countries.

Is the Wegovy pill available in Spain?

Not yet. The 25 mg tablets are authorised and have a national code, but they were listed as not marketed on 22 September 2026, and the Ministry of Health records them as not financed by the SNS.

Are Wegovy or Mounjaro covered by the SNS for weight loss?

No. Both are marketed in Spain but are not funded by the SNS, so you need a private prescription and pay the full price. Ozempic is funded only for type 2 diabetes under visado conditions.
