What is sold here

Novo Nordisk does not market Rybelsus in Germany. Since 15 July 2025 the only packs listed have been parallel imports of the older 3, 7 and 14 mg tablets (90 tablets, importer BB Farma), and on 22 September 2026 DocMorris and Shop Apotheke showed them as unavailable. The newer 1.5/4/9 mg formulation (equivalent to 3/7/14 mg) is authorised EU-wide but had not been launched in Germany as of November 2025.

How to get a prescription

For type 2 diabetes, Rybelsus is prescribed by a GP (Hausarzt) or diabetologist and is covered by statutory insurance. Because Novo Nordisk does not market it in Germany and the parallel-imported packs are scarce and expensive, doctors usually choose another treatment instead, such as injectable semaglutide (Ozempic), which is available on an E-Rezept with the normal EUR 5-10 co-payment.

The Wegovy pill (oral semaglutide for weight management) has been sold in German pharmacies since 1 September 2026, the first launch in the EU. It needs a prescription and is licensed for adults with a BMI of 30 or more, or 27 or more with a weight-related condition. Weight-loss medicines are excluded from statutory insurance, so you normally get a private prescription and pay the pharmacy price yourself: EUR 172.73 for 30 tablets of 1.5 mg or 4 mg, EUR 233.23 for 9 mg and EUR 277.60 for 25 mg.

You can take a prescription to any local pharmacy or send it to a registered online pharmacy (E-Rezept through the pharmacy's app or website, or a paper private prescription by post). Online doctor services can also issue a prescription after a video call or an online questionnaire and pass it to a partner pharmacy, usually for a separate treatment fee. In a March 2026 test by Verbraucherzentrale NRW, five of six platforms that did not check ID accepted an order after a fictitious weight was entered, so prefer services that ask for ID and weight evidence or hold a video consultation.

Prescriptions from doctors in other EU countries can be dispensed in Germany if they contain the required details. UK prescriptions are no longer covered by the EU rules, so people moving from the UK should arrange a German or EU prescription.

Cost and cover

Statutory health insurance (Gesetzliche Krankenversicherung, GKV)

Rybelsus is not excluded from GKV when prescribed for type 2 diabetes, so a GKV doctor can prescribe it on an E-Rezept and you pay the standard co-payment of 10% of the price, at least EUR 5 and at most EUR 10 per pack (SGB V s.61). In practice supply, not coverage, is the obstacle. The G-BA found no added benefit for oral semaglutide in 2021; after a 2024 court ruling, price negotiations were reopened.

Medicines used mainly for weight loss or to regulate body weight are excluded from GKV by law (SGB V s.34(1)); the G-BA listed Wegovy as excluded in March 2024, and the Wegovy pill is sold for self-payment. Private insurers (PKV) decide case by case under the policy terms.

Paying yourself

The only listed packs are parallel imports. The Drug Commission of the German Medical Association (AkdAe), using Lauer-Taxe prices of 15 November 2025, put annual costs at EUR 9,733.33 for 7 mg and EUR 11,355.55 for 14 mg a day, which works out at EUR 2,400 and EUR 2,800 per 90-tablet pack (about EUR 800-930 a month); apotheke adhoc also reported about EUR 2,800 for 90 x 14 mg. On 22 September 2026 no current price was shown and the packs were listed as unavailable. With a GKV prescription for type 2 diabetes you pay only the EUR 5-10 co-payment. For comparison, the Wegovy pill costs EUR 172.73 (1.5 mg or 4 mg), EUR 233.23 (9 mg) and EUR 277.60 (25 mg) per 30 tablets.

Where to get it

Registered suppliers in Germany

Advertising prescription-only medicines to the public is not allowed in Germany, so this is a neutral directory: suppliers are listed alphabetically, we do not show their prices or rank them, and we are not paid for these links.

None of the registered online services we checked in Germany lists Rybelsus itself. Rybelsus is usually prescribed through Statutory health insurance (Gesetzliche Krankenversicherung, GKV) and dispensed by a local pharmacy. The services below supply the other oral GLP-1 medicines shown on each card.

Checking a pharmacy is genuine

Every website that sells medicines to the public in the EU must show the EU common logo: green stripes, a white cross and the flag of the EU country where the seller is registered. The logo must link to the seller's entry on that country's official register, so click it rather than trusting the image. German pharmacies link to the BfArM mail-order register (entries currently open on versandhandel.dimdi.de); Dutch-based pharmacies that serve Germany, such as DocMorris and Shop Apotheke, link to the Dutch CIBG list at aanbiedersmedicijnen.nl. Check that the entry names the same website you came from. You can also search the BfArM register directly.

Online doctor services are not pharmacies and are not listed themselves: check which registered pharmacy dispenses for them and which medical council their doctors belong to. Any site offering Rybelsus or Wegovy without a prescription is illegal.

Rybelsus in Germany: questions

Can I buy Rybelsus or the Wegovy pill without a prescription in Germany?

No. Both are prescription-only medicines. You need a prescription from a doctor (an E-Rezept or a private prescription), and only a pharmacy may dispense them. Websites that offer them without a prescription are illegal and may sell fakes.

Is Rybelsus available in Germany?

Only in a very limited way. Novo Nordisk does not market Rybelsus in Germany. Parallel-imported packs of the older 3, 7 and 14 mg tablets have been listed since July 2025, but they cost about EUR 2,400-2,800 per 90 tablets and were shown as unavailable at major online pharmacies in September 2026. Most people with type 2 diabetes who are prescribed semaglutide in Germany receive the Ozempic injection instead.

Does statutory health insurance (GKV) pay for Rybelsus or the Wegovy pill?

For type 2 diabetes, GKV can pay for Rybelsus, Ozempic or Mounjaro, and you pay the normal co-payment of EUR 5-10 per pack. Medicines used mainly for weight loss, including the Wegovy pill and Wegovy injections, are excluded by law (SGB V s.34), so you pay the full price. Private insurers decide case by case under your policy.

How much does the Wegovy pill cost in Germany?

At the pharmacies we checked on 22 September 2026 the price was EUR 172.73 for 30 tablets of 1.5 mg or 4 mg, EUR 233.23 for 9 mg and EUR 277.60 for 25 mg. Online doctor services add their own fee, typically about EUR 30-40 per treatment request.

Can I get a prescription from an online doctor in Germany?

Yes. Remote treatment is allowed, and several services issue prescriptions after a video call or an online questionnaire. Consumer advocates and a Munich court (LG Muenchen I, March 2025, not yet final) have said that prescribing weight-loss medicines on a questionnaire alone falls short of medical standards, so a video consultation with ID and weight checks is the safer route.

Can I use a UK prescription in Germany?

Generally no. Since Brexit the UK is outside the EU rules that let pharmacies dispense prescriptions from other member states, so German pharmacies are not obliged to accept a UK prescription for a prescription-only medicine. Register with a German doctor (Hausarzt) or use a German-registered online doctor service to get a new prescription, and bring your UK medical records and medication history.

Can I use a prescription from another EU country in Germany?

Yes. Under the EU cross-border healthcare rules, a prescription from a doctor in another EU country is valid in German pharmacies if it shows the patient's full name and date of birth, the prescriber's name, qualification, work address and signature, the date, and the medicine's name, strength, form, quantity and dosage. German dispensing rules apply and you pay the German price unless your own insurer reimburses you.

How do I know an online pharmacy is legitimate?

Look for the EU common logo and click it. It should open the pharmacy's entry on the BfArM register (for German pharmacies) or on the register of its home EU country, such as the Dutch CIBG list for DocMorris and Shop Apotheke. If the logo does not lead to a register entry for that exact website, do not order.

Is the Wegovy pill the same as Rybelsus?

Both are Novo Nordisk tablets containing oral semaglutide and share the 1.5, 4 and 9 mg strengths, but they are licensed for different uses: Rybelsus for type 2 diabetes and the Wegovy pill for weight management, with a 25 mg maintenance dose. Your doctor prescribes the product that matches your diagnosis, which also decides whether insurance pays.
